A great oil with the same name as our magazine

Recanati - 24 October 2014 - Giulia Giovanelli

The central Italian region of the Marches is rich and prosperous. It boasts 173 km of lively coastline, rolling green hills, wonderful food and the base for some highly prestigious fashion brands. Today more than ever it is a favorite destination for lovers of food and unspoilt nature. In this extraordinary region lying between the Adriatic Sea and the Apennine hills you will find the famous town of Recanati, in the province of Macerata, the birth place of the great poet Giacomo Leopardi.

It is at nearby Montefano, immersed in the beautiful countryside, that we came across a producer of this extraordinary nectar which bears the same name as our magazine, AURUM. So how could we resist telling you the story of our curious discovery? We are talking about an extra virgin olive oil with unique properties and an ancient flavour. The story of this oil, produced at the foot of the castle of Montefiore, has deep roots. It is the tale of a love for the earth and its fruits. But what use would an olive grove be without its press? The Gabrielloni family has been producing oil for three generations. It was grandfather Marino who got the press moving in the 1950s and the business has passed from one generation to another, producing extra virgin olive oil using traditional methods with cold pressing and mill stones.

In 1995 Emilio, the father of Elisabetta and Gabriella, left the activity to his two daughters who have carried on his work with great devotion under the passionate, loving eye of mamma Cesarina, who never tires of watching over the business. The tradition of pressing olives has not changed over the years.

The family mill has seen many expert hands work on the olives day after day in this unique area with its mineral rich soil. The star of olive production here is the Laudato, an extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality: a real jewel with precious qualities appreciated both by those who know it already and by those who savour its charms for the first time. It is made with hand-picked olives, selected just a little before they reach total maturity. They go to the olive mill on the very same day and the result is a wonderful extra virgin olive oil with very little acidity, but rich in organic substance and aroma. It is just as perfect on fish as it is on pasta. It will exhort the flavour of grilled meats and fresh vegetables too. And now there is an added extra, you can get awayfrom it all and enjoy some total relaxation, devour Mamma Cesarina’s wonderful cooking while admiring the incredible views. Where? In the family’s Al Crepuscolo agritourism.
